COPENHAGEN, 29 JANUARY 2025 – The Global Maritime Forum today released a report summarising the many discussions, presentations, and small working groups that took place at the Annual Summit 2024 in Tokyo.
The interactive report highlights the main takeaways and recommended actions of our time together and includes video interviews on issues ranging from the International Maritime Organization’s mid-term policy measures to how the historic levels of global uncertainty and risk are affecting decision-making.
Held under the theme ‘Currents of Change’, perhaps the biggest change revealed by the Annual Summit 2024 was just how far the shipping industry has advanced in recent years. There was a notable shift in the tenor of discussions in Tokyo, with debates about the sector’s decarbonisation having clearly changed from a matter of ‘why’ to ‘how’. It was also clear that conversations about whether the sector should do more to retain and attract talent have shifted to a recognition that it must act now, while uncomfortable topics once off-limits, like flags of convenience and the risks posed by the dark fleet, are now being addressed head-on.
